Treating The Body As A Whole
One of the main techniques that Dr. Mitch utilizes is known as Applied Kinesiology (AK.) One of the best ways of explaining AK is by comparing the body to a power strip. A power strip gives energy and life to everything that is plugged into it just like our nervous system gives life and sends signals to the rest of our bodies. When all of the appliances are plugged in to the power strip, everything gets the power that it needs allowing the appliance to function exactly as it is intended to. If an appliance gets unplugged, then it doesn’t operate as needed. This is very similar to how our bodies are hardwired. Each organ system in our body will function exactly as it is intended if it is plugged into the power source. When an organ system isn’t functioning—we experience illness—meaning there is a break somewhere in the circuitry. This break will be apparent by a functionally weak muscle— a muscle that is not correctly responding to stimulus. For example if one of the muscles in the shoulder—the subscapularis— tests weak on both sides of the body a closer look at possible cardiovascular issues needs to be taken. The doctor then needs to discover what will make that muscle strong again. The treatment could include various nutrients, adjustments, soft tissue work, food/environmental allergies, and other various avenues.
AK practitioners must always be thinking outside of the box. If a muscle is weak only on one side of the body, it indicates that the muscle is being inhibited for some reason and the cause must also be discovered—which usually includes soft tissue work or an adjustment. This technique is especially beneficial for athletes and those with an active lifestyle.
If a muscle isn’t firing properly- there is no amount of strength training that can enhance the reaction time and efficiency of a muscle. The root cause must be discovered and eliminated. That is where true health and wellness is found.
